Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Our kids come from a very low income school district with a mostly Spanish speaking population. They have ranging disabilities from Autism to Down Syndrome. We do not have money to replace things that are broken and writing grants is the only way that we can get things we need.

OUR FRIDGE IS MOLDY! It is old and one summer it got shut with some water in it and mold began to grow. The door is broken also, so it leaks water onto the floor. Because this is a class for kids with disabilities, the students are learning how to cook, clean and be more independent. We also have a student who is TUBE FED and we need to keep his tube in the refrigerator in order to keep it as bacteria free as it can be. When I asked the district if the fridge could be replaced they told me that it cannot be and that I would have to start storing all of our food (my students also eat special food, because they have soft diets or special diets) and I would have to go get it when needed. It's impossible to do this and the students can no longer be responsible for making their own things. Its really a horrible situation and I have been trying to replace it for 6 months now.

We need a refrigerator. This will help keep my students healthy, independent and will keep the teachers with the students instead of having to go far down to the staff lounge every time something that is refrigerated is needed. By having a refrigerator in our class, it will do so much for our classroom cooking and life skills.

PLEASE help us out with this. I have received other grants through this website that I am very thankful for, however, this one for medical reasons is so important to this classroom. Please give what you can and if we get close to funding it, I will fund the rest of it in order to get this for my students. PLEASE consider this one. My students would really feel a difference in this classroom and so would the staff.
