My students are nothing short of inspiring. All of them are English language learners with a wide range of English language abilities. Many are refugees who have never had the opportunity to attend school before or have had many interruptions to their educational experiences. They love coming to school and truly appreciate the opportunities they are afforded here. After fleeing unimaginable circumstances at such a young age, they place a very high value on their educations. They are determined, resilient, and thirst for new knowledge every day.
Our student body represents more than 30 countries and speaks over 25 different languages.
The four most common languages are Arabic, Russian, Spanish, and Nepali. Our school community thrives on this diversity as students simultaneously learn about American culture and the many cultures they all represent. We are a community dedicated to celebrating each other's differences in order to build more compassion and understanding in the lives of those around us.
Statistically, about 93% of our population is considered high needs with roughly 90% defined as economically disadvantaged and over 65% of the students speak a first language other than English.
My Project
This year our district is focusing on improving attendance. One of our mottos is "Attendance Matters: Every Child, Every Day!" Faculty and parents have been working collaboratively to meet this goal, but, unfortunately flu season is hitting our school hard.
This project will help meet our district goal of improving attendance by keeping the germs away so that students can continue to come to school every day and learn.
The Clorox Disinfectant Wipes will be used to clean students desks and supplies weekly (and more often as needed!). The BAC-D Wall Mount Hand Sanitizer Wall Mount Kit and AA Batteries will be used for us to sanitize our hands throughout the day. We do not have sinks in our classrooms so washing our hands as frequently as we need to during flu season is a challenge. Finally, the XHL Monitor Wipes will be used to clean our Chromebooks. Our Chromebook cart is shared with three different classrooms throughout the day so wiping them down is of upmost importance.
With your help, we can help keep our students healthy and in school by keeping the germs away.
