Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to participate, learn and experiment. They come from a low-income under-served part of Los Angeles. 93% of my students qualify for free or reduced lunch. The school is predominantly Latino, with a smaller population of African American and Filipino students.
My students love to learn by doing.
They make hypotheses and connections, do experiments and report back on the results. They understand the engineering cycle, and they work hard to continuously improve their results.
Most of all, my students are hard workers. They always impress me by how resourceful they are. They know that college and career readiness are their goals, and they are ready to change the odds in the inner city.
My Project
We've been working hard in our Maker Space building and destroying all sorts of things. We have built prosthetic arms, model bridges, arduino-controlled smoke detectors and catapults. But out makerspace is getting dirty and we are in need of a restock.
We need to restock and cleanup!
With a shop-vac, we will no longer have to sweep up all the little sawdust around our classroom. We are also asking for 8 more arduino micro-controllers, so we can program new and crazier inventions. Finally, we would like a wall organizer for all of our tools and materials, so that students can find what they need quickly. Please help us improve and restock our maker space, taking our learning experience to the next level.
