My Students

During this unprecedented time of closing and cancellations my students are severely negatively impacted by the closing of our schools. Our classroom is made up of 2 dozen of the most joyful learners you could dream up. Their ability to learn new things is truly an inspiration.

Students at our school represent one of the most diverse zip codes in the United States; their diversity brings beauty and strength to our society - they are our society's precious future.

My class also represents the highest need for financial assistance category. This is especially important to take into account right now during the current coronavirus pandemic. Several of my students parents work in hospitals as support staff. Can you imagine what a relief if would be for us to provide educational resources during this time when they are already working so hard for the continued health of our society?

The combination of great diversity and great need for financial assistance creates a situation where we must work tirelessly to provide all the educational opportunities we can as these amazing young people will shape our future. These kids are everything to me. I cannot let them loose educational progress during this time.

My Project

The materials in this project will connect our classroom family over the distance. Help me give my students their own Playground Engineering and Building Set, a blank hardcover book to create, Spectrum Math Workbook, Play-Doh to use for hands on math and science, Pencils, Lakeshore SightWord Daily Activity Journals and more for the whole class, delivered right to their home!

This project will provide AUTHENTIC engagement through parent involvement with high quality math and STEM materials.

Our students will love the hands on materials!

I see camaraderie as an important fundamental part of classroom interaction that students will be missing during this time of distance learning. By providing these unique, engaging, parent-involving, hands on materials like the Playground Engineering and Building set, along with play-dough and a Brainspin creativity game these kids will be able to connect with each other through unique, fun, and engaging authentic at home learning. That will be able to record their learning in the blank hardcover book provided. These unique learning tools will be a wonderful springboard for students to share their experiences when we do live video checking with small groups from home.

The bottom line is this project will provide and reinforce a love of learning to these engineering first graders during this difficult time.
