My students are smart, curious, fun-loving, creative, hardworking, helpful, and kind. My 17 students represent countries all over the world, as well as learning levels from kindergarten to fifth grade. Some of my students need daily intervention while others need daily enrichment.
My school consists of about 1,000 students of diverse backgrounds and diverse learning abilities.
We have a growing population of ELL students and students for which we implement interventions in reading and math, as well as students needing enrichment to acquire success for their educational needs.
Our school does not receive Title I funding; therefore, the technology that we have in our classroom is limited and has to be funded through other means. Our school has an amazing administration and staff who are dedicated to meet each of these diverse needs. The environment of our school is warm, nurturing, and respectful.
My Project
After researching and watching how kids learn best, I have learned they work their hardest when they are comfortable and when they can collaborate to solve problems. When they enter the classroom, I want students to have a variety of places they can choose to work and learn. I have had alternative seating options in place for students for 5 years now, and they love it. It has made a difference in how well the students are able to focus and complete work. Students have the opportunity throughout the day to select where they sit so that they can learn and focus best or so they can easily work with a partner or group. It has made my students more aware of their own learning style.
I would love to add 2 more yoga ball chairs and 2 more wobble stools to our class because these are always popular choices with students.
I would also love to add a class set of the pop bubble fidget squares. I would use these in a variety of ways- for anxiety, a calming break, classroom management, and we could also use these in math when we learn about arrays.
Children have different learning and physical needs when it comes to learning. This project will improve learning and change lives by helping students to stay more focused which results in higher achievement. It will help students with special needs, while also developing a sense of community and independence.
