This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

My students are resilient, creative, curious, funny, and hard-working 3-5 year-olds who attend a Pre-K classroom at a Washington, DC public school. Our full-time special education classroom is part of an elementary school in a neighborhood where most students are considered to be at-risk, determined based on socioeconomic needs. My students have all been diagnosed with autism or related developmental delays. Regardless of these labels, my students consistently prove what is possible with hard work and dedication.

As you can imagine, little hands touch everything and we need to keep things clean!

We have a lot of great hands on materials in the classroom and love to do things like sensory play, but we need the necessary supplies to clean up after these activities and to make sure our classroom toys stay germ-free. We sanitize all toys daily and we teach kids how to wash their hands like any other life skill. Students eat breakfast and lunch in our classroom which requires clean up as well.

We are lucky to have a classroom bathroom, but we frequently run out of soap. That's why this project is requesting a new broom and dustpan, disinfecting spray, dish soap (for items students may place in their mouth), baby wipes (to wipe little hands and faces), paper towels, and hand soap. With your help we can be sure we don't run out of these critical health and safety items!
