This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students at our school are from many cultural backgrounds, and most face social and economical challenges. Over 85% of our students qualify for free or reduced-price lunch. Yet, they arrive at school each morning eager and ready to give their best.
Our students are developing a love for learning.
They especially love reading which is a key component to all other academics skills and subjects. They are not only improving academically, but they are also learning to become good citizens!
My Project
To encourage a love for reading, books need to be readily available and in good condition! At our Title I school most students do not have the ability to visit local libraries. Many students do not come from homes that have the financial means to purchase books. This makes our school library the only place to find books to take home and read.
Having a variety of books on many different levels will give my students a lot of enticing choices.
Through many years of use, our library books have become damaged, worn, and outdated. To give our current books in the library a long shelf life, they need to be protected. Included are supplies to keep our books on the shelf longer. Also, new, appealing books will encourage students of all reading levels to open the cover and dive in. Thanks Donors Choose for all you do for students across our nation.
