Our students are a wonderful bunch of Pre-K children. They are curious and have a thirst for learning. I like to provide them with unique and memorable experiences that they may not get outside of our classroom.
We are a Title I funded school located in a low-income neighborhood.
We are a diverse classroom, in a diverse neighborhood, in New York. My students travel from all over the city to be in our school and really love to be part of our community.
My Project
The use of these STEM materials will really benefit the innovation and creativity of my curious Pre-k students. I have students that range on all different levels, many times some of my students work much faster than others.
I hope that this project will promote teamwork and problem-solving skills that they may have not used before.
With so much focus on academics at such a young age, I'd really like to give my Pre-k students experiences and skills that they will be able to remember and use for the rest of their lives. I have really been interested in incorporating STEM materials into our daily center routines.
We have specific units of study that we follow, and many allow for STEM activities to be incorporated, such as using the metallic cards stock to make kaleidoscopes, using the oil and food coloring to make lava lamps for our light unit. The trays will be used during our experiments and help to make clean up afterwards much easier.
