My Students

As a reading intervention teacher, I work with ELL students in grades 2-5. Our school is in its third year, so we are still acquiring resources to use with the students. We began this school year with K-3 at school each day and grades 4-5 in hybrid classes. Then, all students had distant learning.

We are now in-person learning at school and are excited to be back!

My Project

My reading intervention students are in grades 2-5, but are reading 1-2 grades below their grade levels. They need to practice reading a lot! Our students have now returned to in-person learning. It is fantastic to see them every day! Now that they are at school and have easier access to books and exchanging them, it would be great to offer them a wider variety of books.

Every day, they have the opportunity to return and choose new books in my classroom.

They earn tickets for reading books and can use 2 tickets at a time to check out graphic novels which are very popular. This process encourages them to read a variety of books and also earn the opportunity to read the most popular ones!

I have chosen books for this project that are below a fourth grade reading level and are a variety of easy reading, beginning chapter books, and graphic novels. Also, many titles have diverse characters to help expand diversity in the book collection.

The students will be excited to be able to read these new books which will help them expand their vocabulary and increase their reading comprehension.
