My Students
"[Books] should be . . . exciting and wonderful, and learning to be a reader gives a terrific advantage” (Roald Dahl). As the Library Media Specialist at a rural public high school, I teach a focused reading class of 12 students.
My students are energetic, enthusiastic, and creative learners who have improved their reading skills by as much as three grade levels!
We want to continue to encourage their growth and enthusiasm.
As a Title I school, our school budgets are stretched to provide the daily basics. This DonorsChoose project will provide my students with quality books that would otherwise be outside the scope of our traditional budget.
My Project
Students in my reading group enjoy a variety of reading materials.
The students engage well with books that challenge their mindset and that provide opportunities for them to interact regarding characters and situations.
Reading the book we selected for our class set will lead to interesting discussions as well as comparisons with the challenges they face in modern life.
We also like to provide quality materials “for further reading” whenever we read a book together in class. This helps expand students' understanding of various topics.
And everyone enjoys revisiting some easy-reading childhood favorites! My students pointed out that "we need some more Dr. Seuss books." Who knew? I am so proud of their accomplishments this year. I want them to just Keep on Reading!
