My Students

My students are eager to investigate and extend, explore, and discover. However being 8-10 year olds, they also crave hands-on activities that let them move and manipulate. I provide gifted intervention for 3rd/4th graders. My students see me for 1 hour each day to receive reading instruction at their advanced and accelerated level. This upcoming school year I will be working with 85 students as readers but also in enrichment. The students I work with need to be pushed and challenged at higher levels. In order to do this, I need to incorporate materials that allow students to problem-solve.

My Project

During our enrichment time we are learning computer programming basics to strengthen our skills as problem solvers. Coding allows us to work through challenges so that we can apply persistence and patience in real life. We are learning more about code through "unplugged" activities and structured lessons using Code.org.

We want Ozobot Coding Robots for more hands-on practice.

These robots will give us an opportunity to extend our skills and adapt to different coding "languages" or formats. Ozobots will allow us to apply coding skills to other content areas. For example, we can explore geography by programming our Ozobots on courses using maps.

Gifted students in particular need practice with learning to be persistent and patient as they problem solve so Ozobots will let us learn through 'trial and error' as we explore and discover coding together.
