As a middle school teacher, I try to be as fair, compassionate, and understanding as possible when it comes to the emotional ups and downs of middle school. As a science teacher, my goal is to make learning fun, inclusive and hands-on.
My students are just like your kids - eager to learn, excited to try new things, and trying to make it through the toughest formative time of their life - the middle school years.
For some, the middle school transition is easy, for others, not so much. Many of my students come from families with little spending money and even less time to devote to their kids. Some parents work two or even three jobs, many alongside their children. Too often my students arrive at school tired and not having had breakfast as they were up late the night before working, baby-sitting, or waiting for their parents to come home.
These are good kids who sometimes are not given a chance to shine, to prove themselves, or even to catch up to their peers who have it a bit easier financially.
My Project
A middle school science classroom is fast-paced, multi-leveled, and always changing and evolving with the different students that we teach every year. In order to keep the school day running efficiently, it is often necessary to supply students with the basics materials that they will need to conduct their labs properly, like pencils, paper, highlighters, etc.
In addition, a middle school science classroom often consists of lab materials that often become messy and smelly (frogs, chemicals, etc), and an ample supply of cleaning materials like paper towels, wipes, all purpose cleaner and even tissues, will help make the transition between labs and classes go smoother and not be so heavily reliant on student-supplied materials.
