My students are mixed ages 3-5 and can be in our program for one or two years. We are a bilingual, head-start, Pre-K program located in Philadelphia and serving a low-income community. Our program provides a solid basis for kindergarten including social-emotional skills, fine and gross motor development, cognitive abilities, and more!
My students are very interested in the world around them and have a unique opportunity of learning in both English and Spanish.
We work hard to maintain their Spanish language and embrace everyone's individual culture and background.
My Project
Our classroom needs more opportunities to move and learn! We do have a gym time daily, but are lacking enough resources for each child to participate. Especially living in Philadelphia with limited grass and play areas, we really need equipment to develop our gross motor skills and learn how to maintain a healthy life style! Balls, a balance beam, and moving exercise mats will help us to keep our bodies moving while we are learning! Burning off some of this energy will help us to be able to pay attention in circle time and learn everything that we need for kindergarten.
In addition to toys focused on our gross-motor skills, we are asking for new materials for our blocks center including a play carpet to make it more inviting for cooperative play.
We are also asking for traffic signs to practice pedestrian safety in our everyday lives.
These new materials would help my Pre-K students to keep moving, keep learning, and keep succeeding!
