Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Physical Education is not extended recess time, or time to chat with friends. Regular organized physical activity helps students develop healthy habits. This is why my students need equipment that will help them start to build a healthy and active life.
I am a teacher in a school that serves students who come from low income working class families that live in or close to one of Los Angeles low income housing complexes.
My students are some of the most creative 1st graders you can ever meet. They are smart, enthusiastic, and active students who enjoy learning outside as well as inside the classroom.
My Project
Structured physical activity should be part of our daily routine, but after reading, math and all of the other activities that we are required to incorporate into our daily schedule, Physical Education only takes place twice a week. Which is why it is important that those 100 minutes a week are very productive. The materials that I am asking for will not only keep my students engaged and allow them to have fun, most importantly they will help them build life skills like teamwork. They will also help them refine their balancing skills, and allow them to learn new skills, for instance, moving, passing, kicking and throwing. My students need fun equipment like balls, hula hoops, parachutes and jump ropes to motivate them and to help them build a long healthy life. These activities help strengthen bones and muscles, and will help improve their aerobics endurance and stimulate their growth.
Your generosity will help twenty-one students this school year and many, many more in the future.
This equipment will guide students into developing regular physical activity, that will help them build a foundation for a long healthy active life. Thank You!
