Help me give my students basic supplies needed to complete their work at home. Students need pencils, notebooks, paper, coloring supplies and rulers to help succeed during this stressful time.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are 3rd graders in an inclusion classroom setting. We are a Creative Arts School, along with a Cambridge School and Personalized Learning School. The students have an opportunity to work with multiple teachers throughout their day, either in the classroom or in their Encore class. Being a Creative Arts School, all students participate in Band, Music, Theater, Dance, Orchestra, Art, and PE. Most students in my class are working below grade level and all students can meet with me, an assistant and an EC teacher. We also have students pulled into many small groups and with a variety of other teachers to help bring them closer to grade level.
Students in my class and school are currently struggling with having enough food and supplies at home due to the stay at home order.
Students are living in homes where their parents are also working from home or may have lost their jobs. These students are relying on friends, family, and neighbors for help. Their parents are unable to purchase extra school supplies for them to complete the work assigned by the district.
My Project
My students left school in March, thinking we'd be back the next Monday, however the state had other plans and we have not been in school since March 13. This caused a lot of stress for the students and parents, since they went home with no supplies to complete schoolwork.
The supplies that I am requesting will help my students complete the tasks that have been assigned by the district.
Students left school without any materials, but are expected to continue learning at home. Most of the lessons that the district is providing requires the students to have basic supplies like pencils, paper, journals, crayons, and colored pencils. Most students in my school do not have access to a lot of these materials outside of school, so I would like to provide these materials for my students. Many students do not have a lot of books to read at home, which is causing them stress because they are required to continue reading while at home. I am requesting a book for each student, so they are able to continue reading. Due to social distancing and stay at home orders, I am also requesting envelopes, so I can mail the materials to my students at home.
