Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"The expert in anything was once a beginner." Students in my learning center often struggle with their academics, but with the right attitude, the proper motivation, and lots of practice in a variety of modalities, anything is possible.

Our Learning Center motto is, "Everything is difficult until it's easy." My students prove this everyday despite the obstacles they must overcome.

Just the other day, one of my students was sitting under her desk ripping up paper and complaining about hard division was. However, shortly after finally putting in some effort over the next couple of days, she started asking to practice some division during small group because it was starting to get easy for her.

My students are some of the sweetest, funniest, and hard-working kids you will ever meet. They each have their own unique story and their own individual challenges they work to overcome everyday in order to be a leader of their own life.

My Project

Since COVID started and we have been fortunate to be back in schools, we have moved to students having their own separate materials, rather than sharing pencils, highlighters, etc. With that, we needed to find ways to keep materials organized and labeled with student names. Currently we are using ziplock bags and pocket folders, however, bags are ripping and folders are breaking down. I'd really love to provide my students with something nicer and more durable, hence the pencil pouches and new folders to replace the torn up ones.

Additionally, all students at my school site have a Chromebook, but unfortunately the track pads are starting to wear out.

Students have such trouble simply navigating their cursor to be able to click on anything. They have to shut down the computer, restart and hope it works. With the computer mice I have included in this project, students will be able to eliminate that frustration and complete work tasks with ease. Many of my students have IEPs and their disability impacts their organizational skills and ability to focus. While giving them a mouse for their Chromebook may seem like a small gesture, it really can be the difference to make them willing and able to complete academic tasks.
