This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Students have huge gaps in learning and what better way do we close the gaps than allow students to get and keep them in school every day?
My students are amazing!
The majority come from low-income families with multiple siblings. They work hard and aspire to become educators, attorneys, etc. They want to "make it," then come back to help their community. Our school is a Title l school in an urban community in MD and we participate in the state sponsored free lunch program.
My Project
An enormous problem for students is attendance. Attendance is affected by multiple factors and one is health. Keeping a classroom clean and generally germ free is important.
Students need supplies that are not directly related to learning but have an enormous impact.
When students are ill, we expect them to stay home so they don't pass germs along to others. Often times those germs come from or come to the classrooms where students spend most of the waking day. These materials like hand sanitizer and disinfecting spray will provide some students an opportunity to be in school and at work while in school. Trips to the nurse will be fewer. Trips to restrooms that lead to wandering halls would also be limited. This equals more TIME ON TASK in the classroom which will promote success for students.
