This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
What are some good outlets for a child when they are upset, stressed, or bored? Some of the best outlets come from books, creative writing, art projects and hands-on building materials.
My students are future doctors, lawyers, contractors, architects and more.
My students can be whatever they want to be and hopefully with my help they will make positive choices in life. The children are 24 of the brightest, most eager five and six year-olds out there. They want to read and learn more and more each day. I have taught for years and never seen students progress as fast as this class. To help keep up with their efforts and abilities I have to continually bring in more materials at more challenging levels.
Our school is located in a very impoverished area. All of our students are on free lunch and our school is a Title 1 school. The school district is really financially suffering and due to this, the children lose out on many opportunities. My students are also in an area with a lot of gangs and violence. My goal is to teach the children at a very young age positive options they can make instead of hurting others or making bad choices
My Project
I am requesting a variety of different materials . In kindergarten the children all love to explore different things. One thing we all grew up with and I noticed I am lacking is building materials . We are limited and building is a great therapeutic outlet for stress and upset students. With Magna Tiles the children can create, role play and explore with these great tools.
I am also requesting new creative writing journals. The current journals only have 2 lines and limit their creativity and pictures. I believe if the children are not bored and they are good writers, they won't make bad choices such as bullying or fighting. I have a very well behaved, bright class, I hope to keep their minds constantly going and positive all year.
Finally I am asking for copies of the book Bullying in Schools. I like to use these books when I am talking with the parents and helping the parents talk with their children. I would like 5 copies to also send home with the parents for as a resource.
I am asking for Magna Tiles, 1st Grade Draw and Write Journals, Safety Tags, Finger Print Art and copies of the book, Bullying in Schools.
I want to use these materials to help offer the children positive outlets and to help raise self-esteem through unlimited possibilities. Bullying is such a problem and children often bully because they are bored or have low self-esteem. With opportunities to succeed in different activities, all will be winners.
