My school is a Title I school with 65% of the students qualifying for Free and Reduced-Priced lunch. The students are hard working and range in ability levels from Special Education to Gifted and Talented with all grade levels and classrooms.
I teach all 43 fifth graders math as well as teaching my homeroom students science and social studies.
They are a diverse group of learners from all backgrounds. Students come into the classroom willing to try new concepts when you make it fun and engaging!
My Project
I have seen first hand how kids become engaged in learning and are willing to push themselves and each other cooperatively through games. My students have not only used problem solving during game time, but also transferred this skill into their daily life and classroom learning. They learn to compromise and find solutions to conflicts in challenging situations that are fun and engaging.
This amazing and diverse population of 5th and 6th graders are ready to challenge themselves and their teachers through games.
Giving students the opportunity to learn through games gives them motivation to come to school and try their best. They can transfer this perseverance into their school work and real world situations!
