Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I teach a 12:1+1 (self-contained) class of fourth and fifth graders with various learning disabilities. Our school WIG (wildly important goal) is to move up at least three reading levels by June. My students have been working very hard to achieve their goal.
It is exciting to see the joy on their faces when they continue to move up their reading levels.
When they exchange their books they look for different genres of books. They enjoy comic books, realistic fiction and nonfiction books.
My Project
All of my students are working hard to reach their goal of moving up at least three reading levels or more! I have emphasized the importance of reading since the beginning of the school year. Each student has their own reading bag with books on their individual reading levels. All of these books have been chosen with my students in mind!
With these new books, my students will be able to choose from a variety of books that are on their individual reading level.
From those books, they are also able to chose the specific genre that peaks their interests. My students have shown an improvement in their reading and this project will only help to enrich this experience.
