My Students

Our students are amazing individuals with inquisitive minds and appetites to express themselves. If you think back to when you were in seventh grade, this is a time of enormous change in mind, bodies and social interaction. As teachers, we look for the opportunities to leverage all dimensions and resource to help our students learn and grow into their best selves. Middle schoolers, particularly in our very crowded classrooms, need a place to spread out, find their own space and practice collaboration and communication with their peers.

My Project

This table would be used to enhance collaboration--giving more room within the cramped classroom setting by giving some students the opportunity to sit outside. The picnic table would be used for many purposes: for small group discussions, projects, silent reading; students/groups could use these tables to plan, work/create, have book club meetings/gatherings to be used in addition to the classroom seating. This table will be available for multiple teachers to use giving more students access to them. The plan is for this table to be placed around the outer edge of the mulch surrounding a large, beautiful heritage oak tree, allowing us to develop a better appreciation for nature too!
