This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My 18 kindergarten students are eager to learn and enjoy stories read to them and in need of having the necessary books readily available to continue learning from home. They come from a low socioeconomic background and in most cases come from homes where parents do not read to them, or do not have the means to access technology. My students live in an impoverished community in East Los Angeles. My students are from predominantly Latino backgrounds. They range from newly arrived immigrants to third-generation immigrants. I have students that do not have adequate resources to keep learning from home. The students that I work with are receiving free school lunches. Despite the challenges my students face, they are happy children who want to learn.

My Project

Please help me bring sensory play into my classroom. The materials I am requesting your support on will support my student's language development, cognitive growth, fine and gross motor skills, problem solving skills, and social interaction. Sensory play is great for calming and anxious or frustrated child. These materials will help my students immensely because by engaging their senses children learn best and retain the most information. Providing these opportunities for children to actively use their senses as they explore their world through "sensory play" is crucial to brain development.
