My students need tools and a quiet space in my room to help regulate their bodies and minds to help them successfully learn throughout the demanding third grade day.
My third graders are sweet, funny, and have a true love of learning. I teach in a general ed classroom and have about 6 students with IEPs that accommodate them with various hurdles they face when it comes to learning.
A lot of the struggles my students face stem from things such as ADD, ADHD, OCD, Autism, and other emotional disabilities.
We have a great classroom community already and all of my students encourage each other, celebrate each other, and genuinely care about each other when something is wrong or someone is having a rough day.
My Project
By using tools like the Cando Theraputty, stress balls, fidgits, and the Liquid Motion Timers, children will learn self-regulation strategies that will help them be more in-tune with what they need to be their best learners!
These strategies are especially helpful with children who have faced trauma in their lives, emotional disabilities, or health concerns that make their days long.
Our diverse population serves many of these students and providing them a safe space to calm and regulate will only help them as they continue to grow.
Allowing students to calm down when needed IN the classroom will decrease the amount of time they spend missing necessary instruction calming down outside of the classroom.
