Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students from Dallas are creative, innovative and determined to be successful. They love hands-on activities and spend most of their time asking questions and exploring the world in their own ways.
My students' decisions are strongly influenced by their emotions.
My school is strongly dedicated to teaching my students how to regulate their emotions and decisions so that they can be their best selves. They also connect with each other on different emotional levels and become and classroom family throughout the school year.
My Project
School can be very stressful for students. Many students are coming to school for the very first time in Kindergarten and are experiencing many different feelings and experiences. This can be incredibly overwhelming for children. In order to be successful students need to learn how to manage their emotions and take a moment to themselves to calm down or just to remove themselves from the environment that is making them feel uncomfortable.
By donating to this project you are providing students with the opportunity to learn how to self-regulate and learn how to manage their emotions.
Therefore, making them more successful in their academic futures.
In this project, I have requested bean bag chairs and a rug to set up a specific area the students can retreat to in order to take a few minutes to themselves to rethink their behaviors or the situation that is making them upset. The students will use the timers, stuffed animals, liquid timer bubbles, and the sensory bottles to help them regulate their breathing and their thoughts. I have also requested storage baskets in order to put all of these things in to keep the classroom neat and organized.
The learning objective of having a calming corner is to help students learn to regulate their emotions and make them feel safe in the classroom. When students feel safe they are able to learn.
