Help me give my students a CD player to be able to listen to books on tape and calming music to decrease the stress of returning to school and Scholastic News to keep us all up to date.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a special education teacher in a low socioeconomic Title I school where all the students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. My class consists of 25 students: 12 students with special needs and 13 General Education.
My kids are faced with many challenges in and outside the classroom.
Many are academically two years below grade level. Many of my students come from single parent homes. Although my kids have varying disabilities (LD, Autism, ED and Mentally Handicapped), they are eager to learn and succeed. I want to provide an atmosphere that is safe and welcoming.
Help me engage and inspire my students by becoming a partner in their learning.
My Project
With all the uncertainty going on in our world. It is my top priority that all my students feel safe and worry free.
Knowing my students and their different modalities of learning, I know that many of my special needs and English Language learners enjoy listening to books on tape.
It really helps my struggling readers with fluency and comprehension. They can stop the tape and replay the story as many times as they want. So an additional radio/tape/cassette is so important.
At times my students are very stressed and listening to calming to music helps calm them down so they can return to learning. They can pop some headphones on and they are able to relax without disrupting the learning of the peers.
Scholastic news is a great resource because it has articles that are diverse and informative and keeps us all up to date.
