My Students
I teach math to 6th-8th graders in a special education program in a middle school in Queens. The majority of my students are functioning academically and socially below grade level. Most students attending the school are diagnosed with Autism or Intellectual Disabilities. My students are extremely hardworking and very passionate about learning. Each student has diverse needs, and each student learns in their own unique way. The students in my class would greatly benefit from math lessons that include hands-on activities and material that is engaging.
My Project
The material that is being requested will support multi-leveled math instruction for a classroom of diverse learners. The material will provide accommodations and support in teaching students of different ages, grades, and abilities in the same class. The math folders, games, and flashcards will support tiered lessons, hands-on activities, student collaboration and encourage creativity. Additionally, the requested material will provide multiple levels of each activity which will support teaching the same concept in several ways. The requested material supports students’ learning basic math skills, such as adding, subtracting, money and time. These are the basic math skills that students need to learn about in their everyday life and that help to be an independent citizen in our community. My amazing students would greatly benefit from the requested material that supports students’ learning to their fullest potential.
