This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn." -- Benjamin Franklin. Students thrive and are more engaged as they learn from each other. Finding new ways to inspire and allow student interactions will make lasting impressions and better relations amongst the students.
My students are enthusiastic 5th graders who are excited for their final year in elementary school.
They are bursting with energy to have a strong year and are highly motivated to learn. Their positive attitude enables them to be hard workers and well behaved. My class is made up of 35% English Language Learners which has me using various teaching methods to help them learn the English language along with the other 5th grade standards, including the Common Core. I have students with learning disabilities and visual impairments, so having additional support in the classroom helps, such as technology, manipulatives, and visual aids.I also departmentalize with a colleague, so her students are with me at least twice a week. While being at a Title I school, we are limited to various supplies and classroom furniture, but we don't let that get in the way of learning! The students learn to be flexible and creative in how they achieve academic success!
My Project
I believe all my students will benefit from having an adjustable teaching easel. My students gather together as a whole group in a special teaching area for mini-lessons and engage in meaningful discussions. Using an adjustable easel will allow me to teach and write up charts while being close to them, allowing the students and I to be more interactive. Students will be able to hear and see better up close. I prefer to have my students involved in making these anchor charts which will be used for reference - whether for writing, math, or language arts. Therefore, this easel will be convenient for everyone. I also work in small groups and pull students individually on a daily basis. This adjustable easel can also be shortened to fit on top of the table, allowing me to also use the easel in a small group setting. I will be able to plant my easel anywhere in the room for all to see, especially my students with visual impairments and learning disabilities.
This donation will positively impact each of my students' lives, including my English Language Learners, those with visual impairments, and students with learning disabilities.
My adjustable teaching easel will allow me to roam around the room and conveniently place the easel in different areas, allowing students to see the charts easily. Having this easel will also enable my students to be engaged as they have opportunities to use this easel themselves.
