This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the most rewarding aspects of teaching ESL students is witnessing their growth and transformation as they navigate a new language and culture. Their resilience and determination to communicate and connect despite language barriers inspire me daily. Each student's unique background and experiences contribute to a vibrant classroom atmosphere, making learning both dynamic and enriching. It's heartening to see them support one another, forming friendships and building a sense of community that fosters collaboration and mutual respect.

Math games are another essential element in my teaching approach, providing a fun and interactive way for ESL students to develop both mathematical and language skills.

Incorporating building blocks into our lessons serves as a powerful tool for language development and cognitive skills. These tactile learning materials allow students to express their creativity while practicing vocabulary related to shapes, colors, and structures. As they build, they engage in meaningful conversations, using descriptive language and fostering their ability to articulate thoughts in English. Additionally, drawing and coloring books offer a visual representation of language concepts, allowing students to connect words with images, which reinforces their understanding and retention.

Games encourage teamwork and communication, as students work together to solve problems and discuss strategies. Using markers and highlighters to emphasize key concepts in their math work not only makes learning more engaging but also helps them grasp important mathematical vocabulary. By integrating these hands-on activities, I create a supportive learning environment that nurtures their language acquisition while making learning enjoyable and effective.
