My students need books for our interactive read alouds! These books will support their comprehension by helping them make predictions, inferences, and connections.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My kinders are dreamers, thinkers, talkers, and questioners. They are mathematicians, writers, readers, scientists, entrepreneurs, and teachers.
They are our future and I want to give them a great start to their lifelong education.
Many of the students in my school are being raised in low-income households and receive a free daily breakfast and lunch. With limited school supplies, it's difficult to teach fun and creatively. Despite these setbacks, I am hoping to inspire my students so that they continue on a path of academia and constant learning.
My Project
Every day I set aside time to read aloud from picture books to my kinders and they absolutely love it. Reading the books that I chose for this project, I am able to model the many reading strategies that we learn in kindergarten -- making predictions, summarizing, comprehension. Books such as Noni says No, Dragons Love Tacos, and I Walk With Vanessa teach them a lesson, while also engaging the students to practice reading strategies in a whole group environment. I've also chosen books that represent my students of color such as Dim Sum for Everyone, Alma, The Name Jar, and IslandBorn. These stories will motivate readers who struggle with comprehension and above all create a reading community in my classroom.
Having fun, relevant books that represent who my students are and ideas that they can relate to will help me create lifelong readers.
