Mrs. Kebe from Ruston LA is requesting reading nooks, desks & storage through DonorsChoose, the most trusted classroom funding site for teachers.
My students need flexible seating options - including pillow covers, lap desks, and an area rug - in the classroom. Students feel empowered by having choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom.

"Education is the passport to the future, for tomorrow belongs to those who prepare for it today."-- Malcolm X
Middle school is a time of major social, emotional, and educational growth.
The student and their parents are about to embark on a truly unique academic experience in seventh grade. In seventh grade, many aspects of a child’s school day will be different from previous years. Students will experience a greater degree of independence in the classroom and home. For example, students will utilize lockers, change classrooms, have different teachers for each class, and have plenty of access to extra curriculum activities.
In Kebe’s Café of Learning, we work and learn as a family. IN this classroom, we focus on being lifelong learners and critical thinkers not just for today but for life!
Generally, a flexible classroom allows students to move furniture and gives them opportunities to work separately or in groups, though groups are emphasized.
The flexible classroom, with couches, mats, optional and alternative seating, and cozy corners for kids to concentrate, is cropping up more often again this school year, but the efforts to get rid of rigid rows of desks goes back a decade, and perhaps more than 80 years.
I'm requesting pillow covers, lap desks, and an area rug to help provide new seating options for my students.
One potential advantage is an improved student attitude about the classroom and increased energy, but experts say that should be channeled into learning. “The more explicit you can be with your students the better,” says Cassie Tabrizi.
