The best way to get kids to learn is to make it FUN! I am a special education teacher at the Middle School level for a large urban school district. My district has a history of being underfunded and poorly managed. Our students deserve some fun activities in their day, especially those activities that can help them improve thier skills.
Many of my students have a challenging time making friends and relating to their peers. Creating situations where students can hang out and get to know each other in a fun setting is the best way to facilitate friendships. In addition many of my students have a more challenging time learning to read and even at the middle school level some of my students are not yet reading.
One great thing about Karaoke is that students have an opportunity to hang out with their classmates and work on their reading skills at the same time. For students who may not be motivated to practice their reading skills by reading a book, they can pick songs they are familiar with and learn to read them on the karaoke machine.
With your help, my students will gain access to a fun activity that will benefit them academically and socially. At a time when education is being severely underfunded, you can provide a school with an activity that will enrich students with music and give them some necessary skills.
