This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are from an economically disadvantaged district. Even with the struggles, they have at home, they attend school on a very regular basis. The majority of my students come from single-parent homes. They have very few supplies when they come to school.
The students in my classroom receive small group instruction to better accommodate their needs.
I teach reading, mathematics and language arts. Some of my students have me for all three subjects; some only have me for one or two. Every student is special!
My Project
A karaoke machine? Really? Yes, a karaoke machine can help even the most reluctant readers get excited and motivated about reading. My students are sixth grade girls and boys with learning disabilities, emotional disabilities, autism, intellectual disabilities, and other special needs. I have 25 students with varying reading capabilities ranging from kindergarten level to fourth grade. Imagine how excited some students will be to sing during school! They won’t even realize that they are learning. Utilizing a karaoke machine will be a great way for me to work on basic reading skills or practice sight words that a lot of my students need.
