K-5 Garden Classroom Umbrellas: Dig Your Spade in the Shade
My students need shade in our school garden. They love working outside, but it gets very hot with full sun. They will be able to stay outside longer with the shade umbrellas.
Our school is on the verge of some exciting changes. We are shifting from a more traditional school to a more hands-on, STEM-centered, out-of-the-box type of school.
We want our students learning about science outdoors.
In the past year, many teachers have gotten rid of traditional desks for flexible seating options. We've also created a MakerSpace learning area and outdoor garden. Soon we will have an outdoor classroom ready too.
Our school is comprised of 479 kids from various backgrounds and ability levels.
My Project
Last year we built a garden classroom for our students in preschool-5th grade to enjoy and learn in. Students love this learning space, but it is a full sun all day area.
Students need shade so that they can stay cool and comfortable while working outside.
We have found that students love to work outside but they also love to read in the garden. These two large shade umbrellas and sturdy stands would give our students the necessary shade to enjoy this learning space even more.
We have tree stump seating throughout the garden. These umbrellas will give students a cozy place to sit and read a book. They will also offer enough shade for students to stay comfortable while watering plants and flowers, pulling weeds, and tending to the garden.
