My Students

My kindergarten students amaze me every single day. In September they enter my classroom with scared little faces. Many of them have never even held a pencil. By the end of Kindergarten they leave knowing how to read, write, count, add, subtract, and have a greater vocabulary awareness.

I have 24 Kindergarten children who are very eager to learn about the world.

Many of my students are new to this country and they need hands on tools to help them learn how to understand English. My class speaks English, Spanish, and Arabic. My school consists of pre-k to fifth grade children.

My Project

My school uses ReadyGen reading and writing program. In September and October we read "Make Way for Ducklings." During these months we mostly talk about ducks and ducklings. The students learn how ducks survive and where they come from. In November we read about the weather. I would love to read different types of weather books instead of the one we are given with ReadyGen. I would be able to incorporate these weather books along with my curriculum. Another unit of ReadyGen teachers the students about gardens and flowers. I would use the greenhouses during these lessons so they can have a real life experience. In the spring I would order the ladybugs. The students would watch each cycle of the ladybug. The construction paper would be used to make Science projects. I would use the shelf and bins to store their Science vocabulary/writing books.

These donations would help my Kindergarten children become more involved in life sciences.

I feel it is very important to read nonfiction stories along with real hands on experiences. These experiences help my ELL students learn vocabulary and language skills.
