My Students

Elementary art classes can be some of the best memories we have in our early childhood education as children explore new mediums, techniques, and ways to be creative. As the school year has progressed along with new developments in the COVID-19 pandemic I've seen such excitement in my young artists as they've tackled new ideas and ways of thinking in the art room while learning how to balance emotional, mental, and physical well being in the new and ever changing world the coronavirus has created.

I hope to work hand in hand with my students to design an art program that engages each individuals interests and makes a lasting impression on them and our school community.

Our elementary school is brand new meaning the students of this year will set a precedent for those to come after them in more ways than they or I know! Their ingenuity and desire to push creative boundaries has been inspiring and I hope to aid them throughout the rest of the school year!

My Project

This year has been unprecedented in the history of education as students continue to learn and grow throughout a worldwide pandemic. As the art teacher at my small elementary school, I have seen the impact online learning, social distancing, and isolation have caused on these young students. Certainly, there have been challenges that we will soon not forget, but more so there have been triumphs as these elementary-aged individuals have gone above and beyond in making the most out of their education.

With these resources, I intend to help my elementary students explore their mental, emotional, and physical well-being through mediums such as painting, textiles, and collage among many others.

Specifically targeting topics that relate to their experiences and memories of the pandemic. Many of these children don't know or remember what a "normal" public school education looks like. The art program at our school offers the opportunity to work and think collectively as they explore art history, processes, and personal experiences in a safe space.

Due to the pandemic, many art supplies have increased in cost making it hard to purchase everything we would like to explore with our small budget. Being able to purchase basic things such as felt and paint will excite my young students and introduce them to new mediums that have been out of their reach while learning from home or online.
