Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My fifth-grade students are amazed at unlimited potential but have limited resources to fully explore their ideas. The students come from low-income homes where for some, they only interact with educational items at school. Our entire school receives free breakfast and lunch.
My students have a genuine love for learning.
They love to come in early and stay late to help and learn. I want to be able to nurture that love before it is lost. Every year I have the pleasure of teaching students of varying abilities, from highly gifted learners to special needs students, but they all bring the same thing to my class: the love of learning and the eagerness to do their best. Being a person with a disability myself, I want to show them that anyone can succeed regardless of their limitations. I want to fulfill my duty and give them every opportunity they deserve.
Because of Covid, things have become even more difficult, and teaching a hybrid class brings its own challenges. Technology has become a huge factor in being able to reach all my students. I want to give them every chance to succeed.
My Project
How much more basic does it get than pencils and erasers! So far this year between two classes we have used over 120 pencils. They get used, dropped, left behind and It is that time of year when pencils start to become a hot commodity.
Help me give my students the comfort of knowing when they come to school they will have the tools they need to complete their work.
These pencils and erasers will hopefully last for the remainder of the school year.
Some families are not able to buy most of the basic supplies and I know that there are wonderful people in this world who want to help!
