Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students are part of the Leader in Me Program and are carrying these lessons over into all aspects of their lives as they strive for success. MLA has been recognized as a state and national school of character. In 2020 we will go for Lighthouse Status through LIM. These awards are more than banners in our school, they are an attitude that we carry into everything we do. Our students are loving, kind, and caring. In the 2019 school year, 5th grade had 98% of students pass math and reading. These were the highest scores in school history.

I love how my students are eager to find new ways to lead our school.

They are innovative, driven, and responsible. When you walk into our building at the beginning of the day you will be greeted by our 5th-grade student leaders. At lunch, our 5th-grade students clean their area of the cafeteria when they are done eating and help the first-grade students through the lunch line. These are just a few of the jobs our students do with pride.

My Project

Life is pretty crazy right now. With the economy at a very unstable point the world is going to look a little different this year. There are basic things teachers normally dig down deep in our pockets to finance or we get gifted to us from some very sweet students and their families. This year things are going to be very different.

Regardless of the current situation most teachers just want to give their students the thing we all want more than anything, normalcy - a sense of routine.

The things I am requesting are the basic supplies I use to teach quality reading lessons for my students each year. They are simple basic supplies that we use every day to help us with our reading comprehension skills. Even something simple like a pencil sharpener becomes precious when you think about how frustrating classroom life can be like without a functioning one.

I know this is not a fun, exciting, or innovative grant, but it is a grant that would be so appreciated to fill a basic need for both students and their teacher.
