"It takes a village to raise a child." - old African proverb
My current class of 2nd graders are thirsty for knowledge.
They are a group of very sweet children for whom I want school to be a rewarding experience and the base for years of educational success. Unfortunately, my students live in an extremely low poverty area. They do not have basic school supplies which limits their potential.
My Project
My students need "the basics" for each day of school. We need pencils for all tasks, including math, writing, and responding to reading. Notebook paper is needed for math, writing activities, and our weekly spelling tests. We love making books as part of our writing units, and copy paper is greatly needed as students make their own books. Glue sticks are needed for many projects and activities, including word work, science activities, and interactive math notebooks. A pencil sharpener is needed as our current one does not sharpen well and both the children and I get frustrated as we can not sharpen pencils quickly.
Donations to this project will greatly improve the learning atmosphere in our classroom.
I know that the children feel badly when their families do not have the funds to purchase even the most basic school supplies for them. To help with that, I have been purchasing most of the class school supplies myself. That is sometimes a burden on my family budget as I have four school-age children of my own for whom I must also buy school supplies.
