This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We are a school on the far northeast side of Chicago where 100% of the students receive free lunch. Due to the lack of funding, I am not able to buy any new books for my 6th grade Language Arts classroom. We are trying to improve test scores and prepare for the new Common Core assessments, but we do not have the resources we need. Our students are wonderful and work extremely hard. I want them to have everything that they need in order to be successful.
Every year I buy my classroom supplies with my own money.
We are about to start a new school year and I am new to teaching 7th and 8th grade. With the rising cost of supplies and the hardships my students have gone through I'm not sure I will be able to give them everything they need. I am using a new curriculum this year which requires my students to use supplies I previously never had. For instance our curriculum asks the students to analyze Ted Talks and songs at their own pace, so students need headphone. That is all among other basic supplies that my students need and cannot provide for themselves like tissues, cleaning supplies and bins for organization.
