First graders are full of energy and come to school ready to learn. When these 6-7-year-olds come in they are so excited to be at school and are ready to get our day started. My students always walk in greeting me at the door and they tell me all about their night and morning. So in first grade, it is a big year where they make huge gains in reading, writing, and math.
BPS has 600 students in grades 1-3, our public primary school is located in Southern Maine.
Our community is economically depressed and we are a title 1 school.
I have 17 six-year-olds that deserve the best opportunities to learn every day!
My Project
These math games will help make a difference in my students learning by engaging them through interactive games and hands-on activities. When students are using hands-on materials it will help them be able to really get an understanding of what the concepts are. A few of the games that I have included in my budget are where students will get to use playdough to practice counting out numbers to 20. By having multiple games with using legos students will all be able to play these games, which will avoid conflict in my classroom. Also through the math games and the puzzles, students will be able to have fun while doing their math learning! These materials will be put into their just right work bins so they will get to select what game is best for them! By having these materials it helps students own their learning so they can be in charge of what materials will help them master the standard that they are trying to master!
