This year I am teaching Second Grade in Comal County! I previously taught early childhood, and I'm excited to start this new learning journey with a fabulous group of students in my local community. This will be a year of relevant hands-on experiences where students are able to take ownership of their learning as they make choices that foster independence. The hope is for our classroom to inspire us to do our best work, just as the GOOGLE work environment fosters ingenuity, flexibility and new ideas that have transformed our world.
Growing our children of today into the leaders of our society tomorrow is a huge task, and we need your help.

My Project
Each year students come to school and are asked to sit in an assigned desk for most of the day. I want to change the way students and adults think of learning, and with your help, we can provide a just right space for students to work throughout the day.
As adults, we have choice in where and how we learn best, and that is what I want to provide for my students.
What would it be like if the classroom was an even better extension of our homes, or even better, the work places that foster creativity. With multiple seating options, students will have a choice many times throughout the day to choose a spot that will be just right for the task at hand to support optimal learning.
I strive myself on looking at research and best practices in all aspects of learning including the learning environment, which is many times forgotten. Not only do these options provide choice, they also have an ergonomic design that supports core strength and correct posture throughout the day. Some of the the other benefits of flexible seating include increased motivation and engagement, using up excess energy, creating a better oxygen flow to the brain. It's no surprise that choice and physical movement that is provided by these seating options is linked to higher academic performance, better health, and improved behavior.
