This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach second grade in a Title I school in Southwest Philadelphia. Our school struggles daily. All of my students are poverty stricken, receive free lunch and struggle academically. Because of budget constraints, we receive no supplies, no money towards our classroom, leaving teachers to purchase everything.
Some of the students at my school are homeless, some can't afford shoes; and the teachers, including myself, buy these students these things.
Our students could excel so much more with the resources they need/deserve!
My Project
With a leveled classroom library, my students will be able to choose a book that's not too hard for them. This can help them become confident readers. Currently, my students all read below level, and with the books that we have available to us, my students are struggling to read and comprehend these books.
My students deserve to have "just right" books at their disposal.
They should be given the opportunity to read and comprehend books to encourage them to want to read and become better at it.
We are also asking for a storage cart and check out system to help us keep our investment neat and in order.
