Maya Angelou stated, "Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him."
The students in my 4th grade class are inspiring, curious, thoughtful, eager learners.
They love reading all kinds of texts when their interests are sparked. Many have a love for adventure while others seek knowledge of history. Some enjoy poetry and some prefer realistic fiction. Whatever their personal preferences, they love to read!
My Project
Books don't have to be fancy, bestsellers, or award-winning in order for a child to pick them up. Books do have to be interesting, thought-provoking, and have a clear purpose for reading. In order for students to develop a life-long love of reading, they have to be able to seek out these "just right" books that seem to be specifically made just for them.
Fostering a love of reading is essential in today's world of video games, smart phones, and countless apps.
A good book will never go out of style. Adding a variety of high-interest fiction and nonfiction books to our 4th grade classroom library will help students develop this deeper love of reading.
