Just Right Books for Second Graders

My students need some leveled readers for the literacy center and the classroom library that are "just right books". These three book sets will complement the science center and social studies center as well!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My second graders are enthusiastic, eager learners with enormous potential! We also have the unique benefit of having a classroom set of iPads on which the students enjoy learning and creating new and creative projects.

As a teacher in a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom.

Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. Using the iPad is just one way to achieve this end.

Another way to achieve this end is to provide my students with the necessary supplies that they need to be creative and to express themselves through the arts. Working in a Turnaround Arts School is very rewarding; mostly because of the many creative ideas that circulate between all the teachers.

My Project

Within this request are three categories of books. The first group are the classics such as Where the Wild Things Are, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Madeline, etc. The second group are STEM related stories that would be perfect for our science center and our literacy center. This group contains titles such as If I Built a Car and Who Sank the Boat. Finally, the third group of books would be perfect for our social studies corner and the literacy corner and contains titles such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Maps, The United States and Pocahontas. Most importantly, all the books are suitable for young readers within the second grade range!
