My classroom is full of hardworking, passionate, and dedicated students who are eager to learn new things. Many of my students come to me without any prior classroom experience, yet exceed my expectations daily. They love to dance, read, try new things, and love lots of positive attention and praise. Many of my students are being raised in a single family household and have a variety of factors that may prevent them from getting ahead early in life, but they surprise me every day with their positive attitude and growth.
My colleagues and I work daily to meet the individual needs of all the families we serve.
We collaborate to provide our students with whatever they need to be successful in life.
My kindergartners need a leveled library to begin to choose "just right" books. As a first year teacher, I am working on building my classroom library, but guided reading books are lacking. I would like to have my own leveled library so my students can pick books at their independent reading level.
We have read to self everyday during our literacy block and it is a crucial time for my beginning readers to practice the reading strategies they learn during guided reading.
However, it would make a huge difference to have books that my kids could pick from and gain the confidence knowing they can read them independently. This would also help to increase fluency and comprehension.
Additionally, most of my students live in poverty and do not have access to a wide variety of books at home. These books would make such a difference to my students!
