Just Right Body Balance for Learning!

Help me give my students with special needs a sensory room to help promote self regulation and sensory balance for optimal learning in the classroom. Using swings, sand bed, tunnels, etc for the right sensory threshold.

My Project

My students are unique and full of energy. They are always willing to learn and complete fine-motor coloring, puzzle, painting, and pre-writing activities. They line up at the door always wanting to join OT activities. My students have sensory processing difficulties which makes it challenging to calm their bodies and attend to adult-led tasks.

This sensory room will provide different sensory input including vision, touch, balance and motion, body awareness, movement, and auditory input to adjust the students arousal level and alertness for learning.

The sand bed filled with toys will provide tactile (touch) stimulation to foster exploration and practice writing. The hammock swing, pogo jumper, hula hoop, half balance ball will provide vestibular input to promote body movement and balance. The tunnel mat and ball pit will provide a calming pressure (proprioception) to increase attention to task.

Writing and educational activities will be placed at different stations. These equipments/toys will also promote cognition, visual perception, social-emotional regulation, and play skills beneficial for learning. Help us create a sensory-motor path to make learning fun and exciting for our future leaders. Because everyone deserves a chance to learn in the optimal environment.
