This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a teacher at an open-enrollment public charter high school system serving Houston’s most underserved communities. 100% of my students are on the free-reduced lunch program and most of my students are also considered “at risk.” Our district’s mission is to increase the number of students from under-served communities who graduate from college, and on my campus, we are creating the next generation of life-long learners who are prepared to lead, innovate, and create positive change in the world around them!

My Project

In this unprecedented time, Just Mercy continues to be relevant and meaningful for student learning. We've already started our unit with Just Mercy as our anchor text but did not have enough books for all students.

This is a book students love to keep and I would love for each of them to have a physical copy.

I also want to reach all of my learners. We have some students that would benefit from the middle school version to stay invested and abreast of the content. The additional books will serve as a beautiful collection of texture texts to support their learning of justice, race, and Just Mercy so that they can continue to make connections and develop their argument essay writing skills in a more thoughtful and relevant way.
