This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The students I work with in my district are driven and amazing!
They are strong critical thinkers, challenging themselves, their classmates, and even me to see things from multiple perspectives.
My students are inspiring, but they also struggle with stress and anxiety that comes with a competitive learning environment. My work with SEL and wellness is designed to support them in this area of need. I would love to empower students and educators to enhance well-being in their lives, classrooms, and school communities.
My Project
During our second semester together, students will be studying what justice looks like in our history and in our society. Students will read many different texts, in book clubs and as a whole class, and complete their own research papers in which they will choose and study someone they believe to be a catalyst for change.
Bryan Stevenson's work with Just Mercy is a critical example of a catalyst for change and will help my students engage in a fruitful discussion and study that will prepare them for their own research papers.
Preparing students to understand the systems in place and how they impact our society will prepare them to move into the world as informed citizens with the desire the make the world a better, more equitable place.
