Just Kindergarteners Learning in a LIVEbrary!

My students need a library area that makes children want to dive into a new adventure! Comfort and a welcoming appearance are key!

My Students

My school family is made up of a mix of enthusiastic and energetic general education and special education kindergarten kiddies. My students range from 5-7 years old and vary in academic, social, emotional, and behavioral disabilities. I know that every teacher says this but... I really do have the best students! I value character education and I am proud to say that every year my class is always complimented on their manners.

In most cases, my co-teacher and I know that we are the best part of their day, providing love, support, guidance, and strength.

More than a third of the students come from low‑income households. We are blessed to be given the opportunity to impact our students in a positive way everyday. It is my absolute belief that all students, especially our youngest learners, should love school and beg to return each day. Sometimes my kids cry at the end of the day because they do not want to go home. I know that we are setting our students up for success and helping to give them their very best chance at a fulfilling future.

My Project

Let me paint a picture. You are a 5 year old student being taught about books and you are so excited to dive into a new adventure... then you turn to walk to the classroom library corner. You see a cute blue chevron rug with a bean bag chair taped up from holes and little balls of fluff escaping and a rocking chair taped together with duct tape... ehhhh not so appealing.

Please help me purchase new reading flexible seating to turn our dull library into a LIVEbrary!

We are requesting a new body pillow (and pillowcase) so that students can be comfortable while reading on their bellies or backs. They pillow is also big enough to share with a friend! The reading pillow chairs are perfect for students interested in laying back to read but in an upright position. The arms of the pillow help with stability and wrap the child for comfort and safety. The shag material is great for sensory. The potable lap desks are perfect for students wishing to sit tall to read and also for answering response to reading sheets. It also is perfect for stability. Students need to sit properly and still in order to utilize these desks. It is training students in focus and self-control while helping with posture! It's a win-win!

I am a huge advocate for reading and it breaks my heart that I am unable to give my students access to flexible seating options in our library space. Help make reading come alive!
