This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My biology students come from a variety of backgrounds, and many of them are looking to go into a bioscience career. They are in the PLTW bioscience academy, learning about various health and biology related career fields while they are mastering biology concepts in my class.

Oxygen sensors are used in a variety of labs in biology, and my students deserve to be able to obtain quantitative data from these labs instead of simply qualitative.

We look at oxygen production in photosynthesis and in decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, and oxygen sensors have uses in chemistry class as well. Without sensors like these, students are relegated to qualitative data like, "It foams a lot" instead of "The percent of oxygen went from 18% to 30% over the space of three minutes."
